be a "provocative" Art Cinema Theater in the 1940s and
1950s. It is now owned by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, and shows
art films. The building, however, housed a number of old art films, and
preservationists talk about the role of film posters and advertising in
promoting films.

In Greene County, PA, a resident shot a collection
of old newsreels showing the town in the 1910s and 1920s.
He showed them at his local theater to attract patrons who could see themselves

newsreels, but local teachers and civic leaders use the films in various
ways, including using them as teaching tools and showing them in the local
Waynesburg cinema. This segment shows a selection of these clips and discusses
